CPPS/UNESCO/CI Partnership Conservation and Sustainable use of Mangroves in the Southeast Pacific

Objective:

  • Promote the conservation of the biodiversity and rational use of the resources from mangroves in order to support the communities depending on these peculiar ecosystem.
  • To develop a Regional Action Plan to support communities in the conservation of mangroves

Activities:

  • Workshops to raise awareness with fishermen and school teachers on marine litter.
  • Prepare educational material (videos, posters, leaflets etc)
  • Organize a network of teachers and students – Friends of the Sea – to promote activities like beach clean ups and awareness campaigns.

Establishment of the Network "Friends of the Sea", in order to combat marine litter in the Southeast Pacific countries (UNEP / CPPS).

Main Objective

To raise awareness in fishing communities in the Southeast Pacific countries, addressing environmental problems generated by marine litter, including its proper disposal and/or reuse, looking into practical and environmentally friendly solution
