  2. Existing Modulators • There are 19 Booster RF stations of which 15 still have old style modulators • Existing Modulators use many antiquated vacuum tubes René Padilla, John Reid

  3. Why Upgrade? • The existing Modulators are approximately 40 years old. • Electronics are old technology and parts are getting difficult to find. • Maintenance becoming more difficult due to brittle cables and parts. • Difficult to run at higher voltage due to internal arcing René Padilla, John Reid

  4. New Modulators • New technology • Simpler design, more modular and NO component point to point wiring • Easier to fix and/or maintain • Can run at higher voltage René Padilla, John Reid

  5. Schedule • 4 Modulators have been built, 2 tested and 2 ready to be tested (two are for NOvA) • Subassemblies are presently being built for 8 more Modulators • Expect to have 8 more Modulators ready by March 2012 René Padilla, John Reid

  6. Labor • At minimum we will need 8 technicians • Some technicians work on other parts of the machine and might not be available all the time which could lengthen the time to make subassemblies René Padilla, John Reid

  8. Future • Ordering 12 more Modulator Frames • Need to order some parts for the 12 remaining Modulators • We are in the process of ordering all the remaining parts needed to complete the 12 modulators. René Padilla, John Reid
