  2. BEST Robotics Mission • Engage and excite students about engineering, science, and technology as well as inspire them to pursue careers in these fields.

  3. STEM • Students learn to analyzeand solve problems utilizing the Engineering Design Process, whichhelps them develop technological literacy skills. The same skills that industry seeks in its workforce.

  4. BEST Robotics History • Began in Texas in 1993 • Two Texas Instrument Engineers • 14 schools / 221 students • Today 40 Hubs • 750 schools / 11,000 students

  5. How It Works … • #1 – BEST Robotics is FREE • Open to Middle and High School --- no levels • All teams are on the same LEVEL playing field • Same materials • Team size is up to you

  6. Handout • Example of Consumable components – plywood, PVC, screws, paint grid, block of aluminum, etc … • Example of Non-consumable – BRAIN, motors, servos, controller

  7. Down and Dirty Facts • 6 Week Competition • Kick-Off • Mall Day • Competition Day

  8. Kick –Off Rally • Held at local Hub • GA has 1 Hub • Southern Polytechnic State University • Rules, Arena, Supplies

  9. 5 Week PUSH • 5 weeks to design, construct, program, and test your robot before Mall Day

  10. Mall Day • Opportunity to test your robot in the arena • Opportunity to see other teams robots • Opportunity to go back and tweak your robot before competition day

  11. Between Mall & Competition Day • Submit Engineering Notebook (deadline) • All Teams must have a notebook • Notebooks are scored on their • Design Process • Research (based on theme) • Overall Quality and Completeness

  12. Competition Day • Starts around 9 AM • Ends around 5:30 PM with awards • Lunch Break • Carnival Atmosphere*

  13. Competition Day • 3 Rounds • 8 Matches First Round • Top 7 robots advance to Second Round (semi-finals) • 1 Wildcard team advances • Top 4 advance to Third Round (finals)
