  1. Marathon Fundraising Marathon Information Day 5 February 2011

  2. St John Ambulance • We teach people first aid • We teach young people • We teach people in the workplace • We teach people in the community • We teach people who become our volunteers

  3. St John Ambulance • CFRs attended over 3,500 calls in 2010 • We provide first aid at major events • UK’s largest youth organisation • Over 33,000 courses every year • Treated 124,000 casualties in 2010

  4. St John Ambulance: the difference • Nearly two-thirds of people (59%) wouldn’t feel confident enough to try to save a life • A quarter (24%) would do nothing and wait for an ambulance to arrive or hope that a passer-by knows first aid • Your support can change this

  5. St John Ambulance: the difference

  6. Sussex Homeless Project • Based in Brighton and Hastings • Initiated in 1998 • Led by nurses, run by volunteers and funded entirely by donations • Offers assessment and advice on health issues, podiatry, on the spot prescriptions • In 2010 over 2,000 people were helped by this service

  7. RISE • Respect, Inspire, Support, Empower • Aimed at young people aged 16 to 25 in the London boroughs of Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Waltham Forest • Trains young people in: • Life saving skills • Caring for children, the elderly or disabled • Leadership opportunities and accredited BTEC training • Peer to peer teaching

Fundraising in 2011 • Last year, London and Brighton Marathon runners raised £345,743 for St John Ambulance • All participants in 2011 pledged to raise at least £1,500 for London and £500 for Brighton • If everyone meets their pledge we will raise enough to pay for six new ambulances or 240 automated external defibrillators (AED)
