Planning • What do you want to accomplish? • Inform • Persuade • Educate • Who is your audience? • What do they know about the subject? • What will they expect or want to hear? • How will you deliver your presentation? • Overhead transparencies • Electronic slide show • 35 mm slides • Printouts

  7. Creating • Design the slides, on paper if necessary • Layout bulleted lists. • Determine charts and tables to be used. • Enter the “roughs” identified above.

  8. Editing • At presentation level • Insert new slides. • Move slides. • Delete slides. • Check spelling. • At slide level • Insert, change or delete bullets. • Insert, change or delete charts. • Insert, change or delete tables. • Change layouts.

  9. Formatting • Slide Backgrounds, Lines, and Text • Font style • Color • Size • Objects • Sound • Clip Art • Pictures • Special Effects • Slide transition • Slide build (audio & visual)

Steps for Creating a Simple Slide Show • Open a new presentation. • Select a Design Template (Design tab). • Create a title slide. • Create several multi-level bulleted lists. • Create an ending slide. • Save the presentation. • Edit the slide show. • Save the presentation. • View the slide show.

Demonstration of Inserting Clip Art • Save your presentation first. • Click the New Slide button drop-down arrow. • Choose the “Title and Content” Slide Layout object. • Click the title placeholder and enter a title. • Click the Insert Clip Art button. • Choose a collection. • Select a picture. • Position the clip art on the slide. • Adjust the size of the clip art. • Save your presentation.

Demonstration of Inserting a Picture • Save your presentation first. • Click the New Slide button drop-down arrow. • Choose the “Title and Content” Slide Layout object. • Click the title placeholder and enter a title. • Click the Picture button • This opens My Pictures in My Documents by default • Navigate to the picture you want to insert, e.g. jump drive or CD • Double click on the picture, or • Click on the picture then click on the Insert button • Position the picture and resize as appropriate • Save your presentation.

Demonstration of Inserting a Table • Save your presentation first. • Click the New Slide button drop-down arrow. • Choose the “Title and Content” Slide Layout object. • Click the title placeholder and enter a title. • Click the Table button • Click the Insert Table button • Use the spin bar to specify number of columns and rows • Click OK • Drag to position the table as appropriate • Enter data into the table • Save your presentation.

Demonstration of Inserting a Table via Paste-Link • Save your presentation first. • Click the New Slide button drop-down arrow. • Choose the “Title Only” Slide Layout object. • Click the title placeholder and enter a title. • Open Excel • Copy the cells to be paste linked • Click the drop-down arrow on the Paste button • Click on Paste Special • Click the Paste Link option button • Save your presentation.

Demonstration of Inserting a Chart via Paste-Link • Save your presentation first. • Click the New Slide button drop-down arrow. • Choose the “Title Only” Slide Layout object. • Click the title placeholder and enter a title. • Open Excel • Copy the chart to be paste linked • Click the drop-down arrow on the Paste button • Click on Paste Special • Click the Paste Link option button • Save your presentation.

Demonstration of Slide Sorter • Save your presentation first. • Click the Slide Sorter View button. • Move a slide. • Copy a slide. • Paste a slide. • Delete a slide. • Open a second slide presentation. • Use Slide Sorter to copy a slide from one presentation to another. • Demonstrate right mouse button.

  20. Applying Slide Transition Effects • Save your presentation first. • Click on the desired slide • Click the Animations tab. • Click on the Random Transition button (?). • Click on the Apply to All button to apply the random transition effect to all of the slides. • Save your presentation.

Applying Slide Build Effects • Save your presentation first. • Go to the slide to be modified and click on it. • Click the Animations tab on the menu bar • Click the Custom Animation button. • On the Custom Animation pane, click the Add Effect button • Click on Entrance. • Click on Fly In. • You can modify “Fly In” to be all at once or on mouse click. • Test the effect in Slide Show. • Apply the effect to other slides. • Save your presentation.

  22. Changing Slide Colors • Save your presentation first. • Click the Slide View button. • Scroll to the desired slide. • Point to the background and right click. • Click on Format Background, experiment with some color changes then close the dialog box.

  23. Printing the Slide Show • Select best view for your printer • Color view or Black & White view. • How to print slides • Slides (1 per page). • Handouts (2, 3, or 6 per page). • Notes Pages. • Outline View. • Frame each slide. • How many slides to print • All, current, or range.
