  2. The hero • Beowulf is the nephew of King Hygelac of the Geats; he isintroducedas the greatesthero in the world. His mainfeatures are: • strength • courage • boldness • faithfulness • loyalty

  3. The plot The story beginswhen Beowulf hearstales of a terriblemonstercalled Grendel, whofrightens the Danesevery night. So he decides to sail to Denmark to help Hrotgar, the Danishking, with a small company of men. Firstly he fightsagainstGrendel and killsit. Then he defeatsGrendel’smother in a mistylake and comes back to Geatland. 50 yearslater, he has to fight a dragon: duringthisbattleBeowulf diesto savehispeople. The story ends with Beowulf’sfuneral and the famousWiglaf’sspeech.

  4. The Monsters Grendel Beowulf, at least the modern translation, is written from a Christian perspective. Therefore, the symbolism of the monsters is that of evil. Grendel’smother The Dragon
