  2. To observe how English is taught in rural schools at the primary level and thereby Enhance English language proficiency including basic literacy skills of reading and writing.  & Enable teachers to improve their teaching on the basis of the findings of the study. Objectives Of the study

  3. Most rural schools in India today have children with almost little or no exposure to the language. Teachers from a similar background. The Situation Today

  4. To improve the language teacher and teaching. To help rural learner connect with the outside world. To improve their communicative skills. Why is this project important?

  5. Objectives To familiarize the child with the spoken  language. To help them shed inhibitions about English by using home language in class transaction. Tomove from familiarizing the children with the language by enabling them to read and write, besides listening and speaking.  

  6. To ensure English language proficiency including basic literacy skills of reading and writing.  To enable teachers to improve their teaching of English on the basis of the findings of the study. Expected Outcomes

  7. Methodology Collection and analysis of information regarding the status of teaching of English Analysis of textbooks used in the State Teacher development in the form of in-service teacher training

  8. Two or Three schools for class room observations Two or Three teachers per school Representations from each of the control schools Selection Of Schools

  9. Test to assess their understanding Case study to come out with a model class. Interviewing teachers in Sample schools Guidelines for observing classrooms Criteria for evaluating textbooks Questionnaire Teacher Schedule, Classroom observation / schedule Tools For assessing the Impact on Teachers & Students
