  1. Heart DiseaseThe Myths, Facts & Causes,Prevention, Treatment and Maintenance

  2. Myths • If I maintain healthy eating and exercise habits, I’ll never experience heart disease. • There’s no history of heart disease in my family, so I needn’t worry. • I’m 65 and have never had heart issues, so I guess I never will. • I’m a woman. Heart disease affects men. I don’t need to worry.

  3. Facts • 1.5 million Americans suffer from heart disease • Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in the U.S., causing more than 600,000 deaths per year. • One American every 39 seconds dies of heart disease • Heart disease claims more lives each year than cancer, respiratory diseases, and accidents combined.

  7. MI vs. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) • MI is when blood flow to the heart is blocked, and SCA is when the heart malfunctions and suddenly stops beating unexpectedly. • MI is a “circulation” problem and SCA is an “electrical” problem. • SCA is far more time sensitive, every second counts
