  1. What is cervical spondylosis? Cervical spondylosis is also known as degenerative osteoarthritis, cervical osteoarthritis, or arthritis of the neck. This is a medical condition that results in the degeneration of the discs, vertebrae, and ligaments in the neck or cervical spine as it progresses. When this happens the bone in the vertebrae tries repairing itself, resulting in an abnormal overgrowth of the bone spurs. This also causes the spinal canal in the neck to become narrow. Additionally, as you age, the discs between the between vertebrae that provide cushioning to protect the spinal cord also degenerates. All these changes cause dysfunction in the neck area and result in cervical spondylosis. Because the tissue is damaged at this stage, it is more susceptible to injury. People who are born with a narrow spinal canal may have more severe compression due to spondylosis. The cervical segment is particularly sensitive to injuries and pain and requires special care due to its delicate construction. Therefore, cervical spondylosis treatment is advisable as soon as the symptoms are visible to prevent further complications. You could opt for spondylosis home treatment if your condition is mild, otherwise, you should seek professional medical advice for pain relief and management. Due to this, there is more room for the bones between the vertebrae to touch each other, causing the problem of ●Herniated discs: Aging also impacts the exterior parts of the spinal discs causing cracks to appear on them. This may lead to herniated discs which sometimes can press on the spinal cord and nerve ● Bone spurs: Disc degeneration often results in the spine producing extra amounts of bone due to the degeneration. This usually happens as a result of cervical spondylosis. Bone spurs narrow the spinal canal, thus leaving less space for the spinal cord and nerve roots. ●Stiff ligaments: As we age, the spinal ligaments and cords of tissue that connect bone to bone, start becoming stiff and lowers our neck’s range of motion. Other factors that can increase your risk of cervical spondylosis are- - Neck - Activities at work that might cause extra strain on your neck - Positioning the neck in an - Repeating the same neck movement continuously for prolonged periods - An existing family history - - Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle Cervical spondylosis physiotherapy While there may be no predicted remedy for cervical spondylosis, its symptoms can be controlled and further prevented with the help of regular physiotherapy.
