Background • Woodenbong is located in Northern NSW at the foothills of Mount Lindesay. • The town has a population of approx 500 people with the main source of employment being either farming or timber industry. • Student enrolment K-12 = 240. • 35% Indigenous student enrolment, most of whom live at Muli Muli, a mission located 5km from town.

PLP Development • PLP’s were a direct result of becoming part of the Schools In Partnership initiative. • Collaborative approach using AP, AERT, AEA, classroom teacher, STLA, CLO, ACLO. • Our Target 2007 – is to complete 4 PLP meetings through the year (one per term) for 57 primary students, 38 secondary students and 24 Preschool students.

PLP Meetings • ACLO ~ Rob Williams is fundamental to the whole process.  Vital Link with the community  Respected and trusted  Negotiates meeting times with school and community  Offers transport to parents if needed  Provides feedback to the school  VENUE ~ School premises People present – AP, classroom teacher, ACLO and parents and students.

Successes • Building genuine partnerships with our community • Maintaining high expectations of student learning • Teacher professional dialogue • Identifying areas of student need • Establishing child specific teaching and learning strategies • Aligning all the key stakeholders • Lower absent rates • Quality Teaching implemented • Focuses for teacher professional development

Successes • Parents asking for ‘gift packs’ • Breaking down barriers • Providing the opportunity to continue strengthening the rapport between the school and community on a regular basis • Engaged parents during meetings talking freely • Improved communication • Stronger links with our Preschool • Flexibility • Teachers talking to parents outside school hours regarding positive student information.
