  1. Rainbow Beach, Chicago, Illinois, USA Rainbow Beach, located in the southern portion of Chicago, is a curve-shaped beach with light brown sand and a nearby rocky breakwater. Once known as Rocky Ledge Beach and Lake Michigan Beach, it is part of the larger Rainbow Beach Park and is open from 11 am to 6 pm. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing, beachcombing, fishing, hiking, picnicking, wildlife watching, swimming, paddleboarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, canoeing, surf-skiing, and boating. A designated long-distance swimming area is available, but caution is advised due to unpredictable rip currents and dangerous waves. Swimming is permitted only within designated areas when lifeguards are present. Rainbow Beach also offers stunning views of Chicago and Lake Michigan. For visitors with disabilities, Rainbow Beach provides wheelchair access and an accessible walkway. It is located near 2873 East 75th Street, with a paid parking lot available. Named after the U.S. Army’s 42nd Rainbow Division from World War I, Rainbow Beach is surrounded by various attractions. The nearby Rainbow Beach Dunes Natural Area, with sand dunes and wetlands, is ideal for bird watching. Pullman National Historical Park, a 20-minute drive away, preserves America’s first planned industrial community. Promontory Point offers views of Lake Michigan and features biking paths, firepits, and public artworks.
