Pleasingly proportioned, ingeniously designed and charmingly decorated, the Balinese door is a harmonious part of Balinese architecture. Traditionally, Balinese doors were fashioned of Nangka, the wood of the jackfruit tree. Nowadays, they’re usually made of teak (jati) or merbau. Each of these woods has an attractive grain and is naturally resistant to insects, weather, shrinkage and warping.
