  3. 3 Simultanious Actions for Graduate study candidates 1. Choose the 3 US universities (5-8) & prepare the applications for each one. 2. Determine which tests are needed to apply & take them(TOEFL, GRE, GMAT). 3. Look for financial support.

  4. US - Graduate Education Master’s degrees: Typically 2 years in length Doctoral degrees (PhD’s) Typically 4-6 years in length

  5. Types of Fellowships • Fellowship for Study • Fellowship for Research • Fellowship for Biomedical engineering research • Fellowship for MBA studies or similar management degrees

  6. Fellowship for Study • Graduate Study (MA after MA, PhD) • Non-renewable grant for 1 academic year (9 months) • Stipend $15,000 • Tuition and fees up to $30,000 • Health insurance • Music Study • Non-renewable grant for 1 academic year (9 months) • Stipend $15,000 • Tuition and fees up to $25,000 • Health insurance

  7. Fellowship for Research • Non-renewable grant for 12 months • Stipend of • $20,000 for doctoral research • $35,000 for post-doctoral research • Health insurance of max $1,000

  8. Fellowship for Biomedical engineering research Henri Benedictus Fellowships made available through the King Baudouin Foundation • Non-renewable grant for 1 year • Stipend of $40,000 • Health insurance included

  9. Elgibility requirements • For all programs • Be a Belgian citizen • For Henri Benedictus Fund fellowship you should be affiliated as a researcher at least for two years with a Belgian university if not a Belgian citizen • Have a Belgian University degree (second cycle) • Have an outstanding academic record • Have a good command in English (TOEFL iBT 100/120 or IELTS) • Application limits • No more than 4 years after Masters degree for graduate study fellowship • No more than 3 years of post-doctoral research

  10. Application Process • All year round • Online eligibility screening (www.baef.be) • October 31 • Single deadline for application files for study or research fellowships • November 15 • 3 Reference letters • November 15 • Research fellowship: Official invitation letter

Application file • Online Application file by October 31 • Personal and Educational coordinates • Autobiographical essay (of no more than one page) • A carefully prepared statement • the reasons why you wish to study in the U.S. • a plan of the studies/research you propose to undertake • the benefits you expect to obtain from such study • Your choice of American Universities • Study : minimum 3 different US universities although we recommend to apply at least to 5-6 different US universities • Research : one US university research unit

  13. Decision process • December • notification of date and time of the selection interview • Files are distributed among the members of jury to be read • End of January • selection interviews • Early February • decision is taken conditional to acceptance at US university

  17. Fellowship for MBA studies • Interest-free loan of $100,000 for up to 2 academic years to be paid back within 5 years • Grant covers tuition and compulsory fees including health insurance for two academic years

  18. The Karel Vinck Award • is an outright gift of 15000 euro for a Belgian civil engineer studying for an MBA in the US

MBA Competition • Eligibility requirements • Be a Belgian citizen • Hold at least a Master's degree from a Belgian University • Have an outstanding academic record • Have a good command of the English language • Have some evidence of meaningful work experience • Submit evidence of acceptance or of being waitlisted by one of the following U.S. Business schools

Application process • Apply before May 1st • Send to the Brussels office • Five copies of the application file of the U.S. Business School at which you intend to matriculate • Shorter application file form including • Autobiographical essay ( one page) • Reason(s) why MBA in the US and the expected benefits • 3 reference letters
