  3. Go through the police academy, just like your home town police would! • Monitor Campus Alarms • Emergency Phones • Bicycle Registration/Lost and Found • Contacting Police (505-277-2241 or 911?) • They are “REAL POLICE OFFICERS”

Safety Tips for the UNM Community • If you bring a bike to campus, use a U-Lock • Don’t leave your valuables unattended and don’t leave in plain view in your car • Make good decisions about who you are giving information to or what kind of information you are giving out (Internet or in person) • Walk with others at night • Always lock your room, apartment, home • Basically, don’t forget to use your Common Sense

Shelter in Place • Move away from windows and glass. • If available, take a radio, laptop, cell phone with you to monitor the news and the UNM Information being sent out through the web. • Lock the door and wait for further instructions. • Keep the telephone lines free for emergency information. Do not call 911 or the UNM Police Department for information. However, if you are trapped or need assistance, please call 505-277-2241 or 911 for assistance! • Don’t leave your room until instructed by a Police Officer, authority figure, which could be a faculty or staff member of UNM or given the all clear through the UNM Communication means (E-mail, home page or text alerts)
