  12. The DESY Zeuthen DOM Production Project Rolf Nahnhauer

  13. - Produce 1300 DOM’s in 5 years • Test all DOM’s in Dark Freezer at -40 C • Ship necessary number of DOM’s per year to South Pole Rolf Nahnhauer

  20. DESY Zeuthen Production Facility Ready for use Rolf Nahnhauer

  21. DESY Zeuthen Production Facility 1: preparation of components 2: assembly of DOM’s 3: analog tests 4: DAQ for dark cold room 5: dark cold room (-45deg) 6: Storage Rolf Nahnhauer

  22. Room 1: preparation of componentscleaningpouring Rolf Nahnhauer

  23. Room 2: assemblyintegrationfunctionality test Rolf Nahnhauer

  24. DFL installation of test system to be completed Rolf Nahnhauer

  25. Solution for Zeuthen DFL allows to store 120 DOM‘s in total outside freezer Rolf Nahnhauer

  26. The present status of DOM production Rolf Nahnhauer

  27. 1st Produktion End of February: First 2 kits of electronic boardsarrived at Zeuthen 1.3.2004 : First DOMproduced at DESY Rolf Nahnhauer

  28. 1st Produktion Gel preparation 539 g A + 581 g B Mix componentsfor 3 min Degas for 20 min at 0.2 bar Vidsual inspection shows good quality Long term behaviour to bestudied Rolf Nahnhauer

  29. 1st Produktion DAQ and readout DOM rev3 + DOR rev0+Pirat-DOMHUB TESTDAQ installed and running Can talk with DOM First tests with HV onand internal and externalLED’s next week Rolf Nahnhauer

  30. 2nd Produktion Next 6 kits of electronic boards (DOM rev4.2) should arrive in Zeuthen beginning of May Need in addition connectors and cables Start test production of 6 complete modules immediately  test technology and production chain  train technicians  allow extensive tests of DOM’s  complete and test DFL testing equipment  start work with database and documentation Rolf Nahnhauer

  31. 3rd Produktion Produce and test 60 DOM’s in July-August-September 2004 Needs special preparation  more jigs for gel pouring (+3) DOM-mainboards are expected to arrive only at end of July (no transport delay included) 35 DOM’s should go to South Pole (testing finished at 9/20) 25 DOM’s stay in Zeuthen DFL for long term tests  HV ! Rolf Nahnhauer

  32. Logistics *) *) for 3rd production 2004 Rolf Nahnhauer

  33. Logistics *) Additional risk  time for transport and custom release not well defined, delays possible *) for 3rd production 2004 Rolf Nahnhauer

  34. DFL Testing Testing system for 2004 will not be fully automatised Light source 405 nm available and tested Light source for lower wavelength under study(nitrogen laser? +splitter? + dyes?) Ligth distribution system under development (DESY+Mainz)(2 test channels available) DOM trigger (external trigger signal + optical monitor)planned to be build (DESY+Mainz) DFL electrical cabling to be done Rolf Nahnhauer

  35. Production  2004 Big progress since last DOM Production Workshop  now first DOM produced outside US Goal for 2004 still in reach Aggressive schedule during late summer Biggest risks: from outside  delivery of components from inside  DFL - testing Rolf Nahnhauer

  36. Production 2005 - 2008 - Start up problems hopefully overcome - Producers well trained - Production capacity sufficient - Logistic proven - Customs problems solved  but depend all the time stronly on delivery of components from outside Rolf Nahnhauer

  37. The End • -The project ends with last the shipment of DOM’s end of 2008 • The IceCube Experiment is planned to run until 2020 • - The running costs of the experiment (following up costs of the project) are still unclear and under negotiation inside the collaboration Rolf Nahnhauer
