  1. Good Art vs Bad Art Objective: You will use your judgment in order to critique your artwork and discover that everyone can make art. DRILL: • Take your artwork off the cabinet door. • TAKE OUT YOUR SIGNED PARENT LETTER, YOUR SKETCHBOOK, AND PENCILS/ DONATIONS. • You have 10 minutes to fill in the background and finish the piece. Then you will answer 8 questions about good/bad art. • Does it have art elements (line, shape, color) and design principles (repetition, balance, or a focal point? • MISS GAUGER WILL GRADE YOUR SUPPLIES AND GIVE 2 EXTRA POINTS FOR EACH THAT YOU HAVE TODAY.

  2. Folder and paper • Get a manilla folder. • Tape your artwork on the inside of the cover. • Get 5 pieces of paper. • Write your name on the tab. • This will be stored in the cabinet at the end of class.

  3. Good Art vs Bad Art Write on the paper in your folder. Title and date it. • What do you like about your artwork? What don’t you like? Is it good or bad? • What is good art? • What attracts you more- realistic or abstract art? Why? • What type of art do you like? • What is bad art?

  4. What makes an artwork successful or good art? • Skill, ability, art techniques. • Creativity, problem solving, individuality, something new. • Motivation, investment, and care. • Whether or not the artist likes it… • If others like it????????

  6. Folder Design GUIDELINES: • Must glue something on it from buffet. • Must use 3 or more art materials. • Must have something that is realistic. • Must have something experimental and playful. • Fill the whole space.

  8. ART Agreement I will: • Be on time. • Listen without interrupting. • Maintain control of my behavior. • Respect others. • Respect supplies and room. • Follow directions. • Try my best to be creative. • Have fun and smile.

  9. Classroom Procedure/ Daily Routine • Come in on time • Get your sketchbook and any supplies to create your drill page. (pencil) • Get started in the first 2 minutes. Objective and drill. • Teacher instruction- Slides of visual inspiration and new knowledge. • Learn techniques DEMO • Studio art time to be creating. • Clean up • Closure- One question with 3 answers or 3 questions.

Participation, effort, and behavior 10 points total each day 50 points a week • 2 ptsBeing on time. • 1 ptStarting on time(2 minutes after the bell) • 3 ptsBeing on task, doing assignment and artwork • 2 ptsBeing respectful to people and supplies • 2 ptsFollowingdirections. • + 1pt raising your hand to participate

  11. Grading Policy 50% CLASSWORK Sketchbooks Participation Classwork 40% ART ASSIGNMENTS 10% HOMEWORK

  12. Attendance First 5 are excused. Second 5 are a 5/10 participation. Letter home. Zeros on class work unless you make it up. After 10 you receive 0/10 for participation. Call home. Zeros on class work unless you make it up.

  13. Required Supplies Sketchbook ($5 bought from LHS) Or from Michael’s or Walmart 10 pencils to donate 1 donation from list

  14. DUE DATE Due next Friday, September 8, 2011 Sketchbook 10 pencils One donation Parent signed information sheet 10 points each

  15. LAB FEE $25

  16. Bathroom Pass: • You will receive 5 bathroom passes per quarter. • You will keep them in your sketchbook. • Ones that are leftover give you extra points on art assignments, classwork, and homework.One bonus extra credit- 5pts. • After you have used all 5….If you absolutely need to go you can choose to lose 5 participation points for the day. Only twice. Then you do not have permission unless you have a note from a doctor.

  17. Late to Class: • No matter what – YOU MUST SIGN IN AT THE DOOR TO BE MARKED PRESENT. • Automatic -2 for the day out of 10pts. • You will get 2 warnings. That’s it. • 3rd is a 15 minute detention. Call home. • 4th is a 30 minute detention. Call home. • 5th sent to Art Dept head- Friday school • 6th referral to administrator

  18. Grading • We will hang art on board to critique it. • You will turn it into the TO BE GRADED box. • When it is graded it will be in the GRADED box. • Same thing with sketchbooks. • Grades will be posted on edline.

Storage for sketchbooks: • In the cabinet. • It will be marked so that you remember which one to open. • PLEASE PLACE YOUR SKETCHBOOK UNDER THE CORRECT COLUMN IN CABINET. • Students “lose” theirs by putting under the wrong class or in the wrong cabinet, but it’s just in the wrong space. • Place 3 sketchbooks in each spot. (30 students/ 10 spots)

  21. Review: • What is the first thing you should do when you come in tomorrow? • What if you’re late? What do you do? • What is due on Sept 9th?

  22. Bring in your 10 pencils and donations.Bring in $5 for a sketchbook or buy one and bring it to class everyday. Extra Credit – 1pt tomorrow for each.
