THE DEMOGRAPHICS • Total student enrollment: 7307 • Total classroom teachers: 497 • Students with IEPs: 17.2% • Students who are ELs: 5.6% • African American: 9.4% • Hispanic or Latino: 7.9% • American Indian: .01% • Asian or Pacific Islander: 5.3% • Two or more races: 5.1% • Free or reduced lunch: 39%

THE PROBLEM Although the overall graduation rate for the school district matches the state average of 92.7%, graduation rates for students of color, students with special needs, and students who speak English as an additional language graduated at rates of 67.8%, 62.5%, and 64.1% respectively.

  8. THE SOLUTION In response, the Martin School District has created a new professional development program where all educators will be required to stay an additional hour every Wednesday after school for the entire school year to learn about and practice differentiated instruction.
