  3. Colonial Professions Colonial times differed from today because all their goods were made by hand. Craftsmen were needed to provide the necessary daily goods. A craftsman usually began as an apprentice, learning a trade as a young boy The apprentice then graduated to a journeyman and then to a master

Colonial Class System There were distinct classes of people in Colonial America The Lower Class were comprised of slaves, landless farmers, farmers with small plots of land, indentured servants and the unemployed The Middle Class consisted of farmers owning large amounts of land, artisans (blacksmith, cooper etc) doctors and lawyers The Upper Class consisted of plantation owners, merchants and politicians
