  1. The PC in 6 to 10 years and what thiswill mean for society H. Maurer, Graz U. of Technology Presentation at the WWW/Internet Conference 2004 Madrid, Oct. 6- 10

  2. To be able to judge implications of the PC 2012 we need to know what it will be like! A potential scenario for the PC 2012: Combines: Cell phone, computer, camera, GPS, microphone, loudspeaker, tools for identification and payment, various sensors, permanent volume- oriented access to powerful server system and „Internet“

  3. The PC 2012 does NOT have : --- harddisk --- screen --- keyboard --- battery as we now know it

  4. Energy-consumption Xybernaut

  5. The visible part of the PC 2012 1: The PC proper communicates with eye- glasses and necklace

  6. The visible part of the PC 2012 2: The eye-glasses deliver sound to both ears (ear bone), i.e. we have 3 D sound

  7. The visible part of the PC 2012 5: Using small mirrors the eyeglasses projectpictures directly on retina: 3 D scenes !

  8. The visible part of the PC 2012 4: Camera and Compass. Zoom and macro-mode, pictures for eyes and for computer withpowerful image processing software.

  9. The visible part of the PC 2012 6: Larynx- microphones (Speech recognition), loudspeakers (Language Translation), various sensors

  10. The visible part of the PC 2012 3: Headband for measuring brain activity (Data input through just thinking!)

  11. Currrent Technologies

  12. Current Technologies

  13. Current Technologies

  14. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes how we use computers Information- input:--- through speech--- through hand/finger gesture- recognition (virtual keyboard)--- through direction sensors on e.g. head--- through thinking (brain activity)

  15. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes communication between persons Cell phone, yet use is not noticeable ( is this telepathy?), simultaneous transmission of pictures (video- cell phone, photos), possiblycoming from or being stored on a server.

  16. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes how we discuss things Information on server with “Interactive Knowledge Center” can be used while we talk, we use guided tours, perform calculations or communications not noticeable by partner, …

  17. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes how we deal with people Camera in glasses recognizes person, provides info from local storage or server; business cards and ideas are electronically exchanged

  18. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes how we access information Clear: Continuous access to knowledge from local source or via a portal server revolutionizes thinking … but powerful “Knowledge Tools”are necessary for e.g. filtering.

  19. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes how we access information … also changes type of information we consume. Static paper-based info replaced by dynamic “visual languages”. New types of documents: writing plays minor role, documents may be language independent! MIRACLE: Multimedia Information Repository: AComputer-based Language Effort

  20. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes how we experience the world Computer turns into guide, assistant, and consultant … with info from huge portal servers!

  21. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes how we live How we pay, order, operate tools and gadgets near and far

  22. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes medical situation Supervision, assistance, help, evaluation of sensory data

  23. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes how we learn Not just HOW (eLearning with lots of communication and collaboration), but even WHAT. Much current knowledge will reside in servers and PCs, not in human brains!

  24. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes how we work Massive computer support through “Interactive Knowledge Centers”, directcollaboration with other persons, usingsimilarity recognition and other knowledge tools.

  25. Implications of the PC 2012 Changes Humanity PCs and portal servers become extensions of the human mind, and minds interconnect through communication tools readily.

  26. May be the organism „human being“ will be more and more replaced by a new organism Humankind

  27. ...and then one day the Internet collapsed

  28. The latest book inmy “Xperts-Series” describes exactly such a scenario. www.iicm.edu/Xperts

  29. Die XPERTEN- Saga The Telekinetic (Maurer) The Paracommunicator (Lennon) The Paradoppelganger(Maurer) The Parashield(Osborne) eSmog! (Backhaus) The Parawarriors(Maurer) Paramails (Lechner) The Paranet (Maurer) Official presentation of green books Nov. 2, 04 in Washington16 further books in planning stage Total Supervison (Maurer)
