  4. UPMC Nonprofit/Tax-Exempt Status Talking Points Everyone is aware of the recent challenge Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and others have raised about UPMC’s non-profit status. Here are points to help: • UPMC always has and always will deliver exceptional care and excellent value. Every day patients and insurance subscribers overwhelmingly are choosing UPMC, which is the true measure of how we are regarded in the community. • UPMC is more responsive to community needs than any other nonprofit organization in western Pennsylvania. • UPMC provides more than $622 million to the region each year thru charity care, investments in teaching and research, grants to community organizations, and other community benefits). • How we manage our operations has created and sustains nearly 60,000 jobs and allows us to invest in facilities like the new Children’s Hospital and UPMC Mercy, revitalizing neighborhoods across the city. • Visit “Commitment to the Community,” on UPMC.com to learn more!

  5. 2014 Take a Healthy Step Begins! • UPMC employees can reduce their 2014 medical plan deductible by completing the following TAHS requirements by Nov. 13, 2013: • Complete or update the MyHealth Questionnaire. • Complete a biometric screening between Dec. 1, 2008 and Nov. 13, 2013. • Earn deductible credit dollars by completing Healthy Step activities. • Early Bird Bonus for 2014 • Complete the MyHealth Questionnaire before Sunday, June 30, 2013, and you’ll earn a bonus of $100 deductible credit toward your TAHS requirements.

Help Our Neighbors and Their Pets in Need • UPMC is collecting donations for the Scouting for Food drive to benefit local food banks, and also for the Animal Friends Chow Wagon program, which provides food to hungry pets of families in need. • Date: April 1–31 • How: Donate online or bring in needed items and place them in the Lend a Hand boxes. • Learn More: Infonet.UPMC.com/ScoutingforFood

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day • You are invited to bring your child (or a mentee!) to work with you on Thursday, April 25, 2013 Corporate Services Human Resources Special Event • Register • Email Gabriella Kassinove • Registration is limited to 35 children; first come, first served • Children must be between the ages of 9 through 12 • The agenda for the event consists of information about UPMC, our Dignity & Respect campaign, and a variety of engaging activities
