  3. About this course: • Logical extension of IST359. There’s a good bit of overlap. • Many topics we delve into with greater detail. • We use Oracle 11g as the DBMSinstead of SQL Server. • DBA / Database Developer focused. • We will focus our energies on yourDb interests. • We will learn from each other.  • About 80% “Hands On.” Lots of doing.

  7. Methods Of Evaluation

  8. Labs – 36 pts • 13 of them. 12 Count towards your grade. • Start them in class; complete them out of class. • Consist of some are walk-through and assignment-basedactivities. • 3 points each. Due by the end of day from the next class. (Monday)

  10. Quizzes – 24 pts • 4 Quizzes at random throughout the semester. • Best 3 scores count towards grade. • 8 MC questions worth 8 points on final grade. • Delivered in class. • Quizzes will be announced a class prior so you know when we’re having one.

  11. Project – 40 pts • Semester long activity; due at the end of the semester. • You can start it today using the knowledge you acquired in IST359. • Design and build a database system from the ground up. • Deliverables: A report of your design, a working prototype system, and a presentation / demo. • You can work with a partner, but your project must be twice as ambitious. • Great resume builder.
