Costume • What do you need? • The mother - old fashioned apron, house slippers, trousers and a shirt • The father - trousers and a shirt, smart shoes • The son - jeans and a casual shirt, trainers • The daughter - dress, tights, trainers? • What have you done to organise this? • Shopped online and asked the actors to use their own clothes. • Why have you made these choices? How do these reflect the genre and tone of your opening sequence? • We want the mother to look smart like a business woman but also like a stay at home mum, wearing slippers and an apron to show this side of her. • We want the rest of the family to look comfortable, in casual clothes, nothing that overly enforces any ideas about their social or economic status. We want this neutral look so that the family seem ‘normal’ meaning that the strange behaviours from the mum are noticeable and stand out from the rest of the family.
Location • What do you need? • Kitchen space, dining room table, window looking out onto road or car park. • What have you done to organise this? • We are using the kitchen in Hurtwood House. • Why have you made these choices? How do these reflect the genre and tone of your opening sequence? • Kitchen has a connection to the backstory - knives, cutting, storing, etc • Dining room table shows family unity, idea of ‘happy family’ - still linked to the kitchen
