  1. Class: Crustacea Subclass: Copepoda Order: Eucopepoda Suborder:Cyclopoida Mesocyclops edax Forbes Description: Plate 024a. Lateral view of female Mesocyclops edax. Plate 024b. 1st antennae of Mesocyclops edax, usually containing 17 segments. Plate 024c. The 2nd antennae of Mesocyclops edax (upper right and left) and 2nd maxillae of same (bottom). The toothed hyaline lamella of 1st segment is easily Plate 024d. The 5th leg of Mesocyclops edax. Plate 024e. Caudal rami of Mesocyclops edax. Number of segments in 1st antennae usually 17; the hyaline lamella of last segment of 1st antennae is notched with ventrally curved teeth. This common and wide spread species may be confused with Macrocyclops fuscus. The inner margin of the caudal rami containing hairs. The placement of the lateral spine on the caudal rami is nearly midway between last abdominal segment and terminal setae.
