  2. Goals & Objectives from previous IACs • From Barcelona: • to raise the visibility of youth participants and youth issues at the conference, and encourage more commitment from HIV organizations to work more closely with youth

Goals & Objectives from previous IACs • From Bangkok: • to provide technical information and skills to young people so they feel empowered to effectively participate in the scientific and community program discussion • to promote the integration of youth issues into the mainstream Conference agenda. • to train youth to become leaders in their own right

Results from Bangkok Pre-conference • 130 youth participants from more than 40 countries • Sessions topics included: ABCs and comprehensive prevention, VCT and PMTCT, M&E, research methodology, ARVs, high risk populations, OVCs, gender, microbicides, advocacy, media, PLWHA, and vaccines • Feedback from youth: Pre-conference was the most useful experience from Bangkok

Results from Bangkok • Youth attended sessions aimed for youth and aboutyouth AND sessions on topics requiring more youth involvement for better results • Youth were able to represent young people in general AND encouraged explore own interests • Presence of youth much more substantive • Showing that they are capable of becoming true partners in the HIV/AIDS campaign • Establishment of an official youth programme with an official, full-time Youth Coordinator and Youth Advisory Committee, increased # of scholarships

Progress Made from Bangkok to Toronto • Increased youth participation at international conferences • Establishment of Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA) • Advocacy for TYF and meaningful youth participation/ youth-adult partnerships • Currently 6 young people on planning committees, one youth plenary speaker • Toronto Youth Force recognized by conference organizers as an affiliated partner • Fundraising efforts underway

  8. Goal for Toronto To promote and facilitate meaningful youth participation and youth-adult partnerships before, during, and after the 2006 XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto, Canada.

  9. Objectives for Toronto • To facilitate the collaboration of stakeholders committed to youth HIV/AIDS issues at the Conference. • To empower young people from both the developing and developed world to be effective participants in the Conference via a variety of pre-Conference activities.

  10. To promote youth participation and inclusion of youth issues in the mainstream conference agenda, in press generated from the Conference and in HIV/AIDS programs and policies in general. • To gain and achieve international and individual commitments which promote youth leadership and mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on young people. Objectives to be achieved as a collaborative effort with AIDS 2006 Youth Programme

How You Can Get Involved 1) Join a Task Force! 2) Submit abstracts, skills building sessions, and Youth Pavilion applications 3) Affiliate your organization’s activities for the conference with the TYF 4) Support a young person to attend the conference: - registration: $200 - airfare (international) approx. $500-2000 - accommodation: $225 (9 nights including pre- conference) - per diem (food and incidentals): $513 ($57/day) TOTAL per individual : $1438- $2938

  14. How You Can Get Involved 5) In-kind donation: • Materials, t-shirts, stickers, buttons, posters, banners, sound equipment, DJ, catering, etc. 6) Financial contribution to TYF/ Youth Programme
