  1. Annual Golf Getaway SAN DIEGO, CA It’s time again for the annual Getaway Gang Outing. We will continue having our event this year in sunny California, but this time we are heading a little further South. Our Getaway Golf trip will be slightly northeast of San Diego about 30 miles into the Barona Valley region. As in the past, we will be playing two awesome courses with the Barona Creek golf course being rated 4½ stars by Golfweek magazine. The first course on the agenda is the Mt. Woodson Golf Course which has been tagged as one of the best public golf course in the San Diego area and one of San Diego County’s most dramatic golf course settings. The second course we will play is part of the Barona Resort and Casino and has been proclaimed as the fifth best Resort golf course in the entire United States. Golf Date: Sunday – April (TBD) Monday – April (TBD) Place: Mt. Woodson Golf Club Barona Creek Golf Club First Tee Time: 10:00 AM 10:00 AM Challenge your senses and your golf game. The 15th tee at Barona Creek is at the highest elevation on the course and offers a magnificent panoramic view of the lakes at the bottom of the valley and the Barona Hotel and Casino. You can't help but pull your camera out of your golf bag and snap your own postcard. This San Diego golf course has earned some very noteworthy distinctions by Golfweek , GOLF and Golf Digest Magazines. What makes Maderas Golf Club stand out is its meticulously superb Troon golf course conditioning and first-class service. Personal attention to the guest is given from the parking lot to the first tee and everywhere in between. It's no wonder this San Diego golf course was voted #1 Golf Course in San Diego County and # 6 Golf Course in California in the 2003 and 2004 Zagat Survey. Maderas is definitely one of the top "must-play" golf courses in San Diego Barona Creek Golf course is beautiful, especially if you enjoy sun-splashed, desert style golf.  Barona Creek plays to a par of 72 and stretches to 7,448 yards from the tips.  It sports enough variety of tee boxes to accommodate all skill levels, but if you think you got game this course will test it. The 3rd hole, for example plays 260 yards.  Oh and by the way, it’s a par 3!  With more than 100 multi-fingered bunkers and a series of lakes and ponds that are connected to the areas naturally fed streams, the scenery at Barona Creek is fairly spectacular.  The golf course also has more than 170 mature native oak trees transplanted from other regions of the Barona Indian Reservation. Making use of the subtly undulating terrain, prominent rock outcroppings and gentle elevation changes preserve the lands’ unique characteristics. The combination of both natural and strategic elements of the design make Barona Creek Golf Club one of the most challenging and thought provoking golf courses in San Diego. Since the course is part of a casino resort complex complete with on-site hotel accommodations, it’s a perfect destination for a golf get-a-way Mt. Woodson has been selected as the second most scenic golf course in San Diego (behind Torrey Pines) for 10 years in a row. The course has great scenery, views, boulders and a castle too. The course is beautiful and challenging. The course opened in 1992. It features elevation changes, mountain and valley views, lakes, huge boulders and towering oak trees. Each hole is as unique as the names of the holes: The Chute, Razor’s Edge and The Plunge. The course has no driving range but has a practice facility that features a short game area and a full practice putting green. There is a full service golf shop and a newly renovated Wine Bar and Café that features an exclusive list of Ramona wines.

  2. Here is the plan. There has been another shift in the golf days. When we first started on these outings we used to play on Saturday & Sunday. The two most expensive days to play golf. So, to cut down the costs, I shifted our golf outings to play golf on Sunday and Monday. I have now found it to be significantly cheaper to play on Sunday and Monday. In the case of this trip, the Barona course is $40 less on Monday-Thursday. Lodging is $50 less on Sunday through Thursday and finally, the Barona Resort has a special stay and play package for Monday through Thursday (see details below). So, we are going to try the following: Saturday most likely will be utilized as a travel day. The first day of golf has been scheduled for the Mt. Woodson Golf Club on Sunday, with our second day of golf taking place at the Barona Creek Golf Club on Monday. Finally, Tuesday will probably be the return day for most of you. Cost associated with staying at the Barona Resort: Barona Resort special package: $330 double occupancy/2 rounds of golf ($165 per person) Challenge your game, challenge your senses with our Moment on the Green package. Includes: One Night Hotel StayOne Round of Golf at Barona Creek Golf Club Callaway Golf Pouch Valid January - May  and Monday – Thursday Additional Nights lodging (Deluxe Room – 2 Queen beds): $140 per night (Sunday – Thursday) Your total cost for 3 nights lodging (Double occupancy for Sun-Tue) and 2 rounds of golf : $475 This year as in the past, group dinners are planned. 3. Website: www.mtwoodsongc.com Place: Mt. Woodson Golf Club Date: Sunday – April (TBD) Course: Mt. Woodson Golf Course Tee Time: 10:00 AM (first group) Location: Ramona, California Price $75.00 (Northeast of San Diego) One of San Diego County’s most dramatic golf course settings, Mt. Woodson Golf Club is set amidst towering ancient oaks, huge granite boulders and sparkling lakes. The course is a true target-style design offering shot-making challenges you will never forget. Mt. Woodson is a par-70, 6,180-yard course on 150 beautiful acres. The award-winning 18-hole course meanders up and down hills, across bridges, and around granite boulders. Elevated tees provide striking views of Ramona and Mount Palomar, and on a clear day you can see for almost 100 miles. This Synergy Golf Partners managed course is set in San Diego North...in the hills and valleys of Ramona. Steep changes in elevation are captured in names such as Drop Off, The Chute, Razor’s Edge, and The Plunge. To add to the unforgettable experience, a 450-foot wooden bridge winds through the treetops and becomes a unique and thrilling addition to the Mount Woodson golf course experience. Mt. Woodson Golf Club is San Diego's only one-of-a-kind golf course. A true target-style design that captures the rugged natural setting of the Ramona Valley. Golfers of all abilities will find Mt. Woodson to be a unique golfing experience and one that is simply unforgettable. This picturesque course, situated in a quiet valley, was built on the natural terrain. The fast greens are well manicured, and the fairways are plush. An abundance of wildlife roams freely throughout the course, and every hole features views of the beautiful Ramona Mountains. The terrain is hilly, so you should expect many uneven lies and changes in elevation. There are several extremely short par 4's in which you can drive the green with some help from the wind and the downhill design of the holes. Numerous large sand bunkers have been incorporated into this course's design. Due to the tall natural vegetation on the sides of the fairways, accuracy is at a premium. Mt. Woodson Golf Club was voted "Best Scenery" by Southland Golf Magazine due to the course's dramatic views of majestic mountains, relaxing water, lush green and wild life. Get carried away by the backdrop as you play 18 holes of fun, enjoy an outdoor fire pit, snack bar, beverages and a beautiful club house.

  4. Website: http://www.barona.com/golf/ Place: Barona Resort & Casino Date: Sunday – April (TBD) Course: Barona Creek Golf Club Tee Time: 10:00 AM (first group) Location: Lakeside, CA Price $120.00 (Northeast of San Diego) Deployed like a blanket over the hillsides and valley in the Southwest corner of the Reservation, the Barona Creek Golf Course was built with very little earth movement. This natural looking course (Gary Roger Baird design - Todd Eckenrode architect) - opened to the public in 2001. This brand new San Diego golf course consists of wide open, gently rolling fairways and spacious, undulating Bent grass greens embraced by forgiving, multi-fingered bunkers filled with soft, snowy white, Augusta sand. At each tee box players are greeted by a etched granite rock with the hole number and yardages from each of the five sets of tees. Several old oaks scattered about Barona Creek Golf Course gives this par 72 layout a rustic flavor. No extreme forced carries and just a few risk-reward situations are present in this friendly, yet challenging San Diego golf course. The front nine holes feature undulating fairways with subtle changes in elevation. On some holes, bunkering about 50 to 60 yards from the green and grassy swells give the visual illusion of shorter distance for the approach. You must trust the yardages on the sprinkler heads and markers for correct clubbing. The back nine holes climb up and down the hillside, some of them hugged by prominent rocky outcrops. The shortest par four hole on the course - the uphill 14th, 315 yards from the back - is followed by the farthest point from the clubhouse, the 15th tee. This tee is also at the highest elevation on the Barona Creek and offers a magnificent panoramic view of the lakes at the bottom of the valley and the hotel and casino. The finishing hole is also the toughest. A 474-yard par four into the prevailing wind, it entices the player with a wide open fairway running parallel to an elongated lake, but then it demands a careful approach to a large green next to the water. Among the distinctions earned by Barona Creek Golf Course are: "Top-5 Daily-Fee Course in California" and "Top-100 Modern Course in America" by Golfweek magazine, "Top-10 New Course in America" by GOLF Magazine, and "Bronze Signature Sanctuary Certification" by Audubon International.
