On March 11, 2010, he passed away at Gilsang Temple in Seoul. He had been suffering from lung cancer for several years. He was 78. Ven. BeopJeong was born in Haenam, Jeollanamdo Province in 1932. His real name is Park Jae-cheol. As a young man, Park thought much about life and death after experiencing the Korean War (1950-1953). Later, he decided to leave and search for the truth. He became a monk in 1955. In 1976, he became well known with his book of essays titled ‘Musoyu.’ The word ‘Musoyu’ means ‘Non-Possession.’ His essays teach us lessons. They show the simple joys of life. He also wrote several other essays and books on Buddhism. Ven. BeopJeong was cremated at Songgwang Temple in Jeollanamdo Province. More than 30,000 people from the nation attended the ceremony. They paid their respect to him. In his will, he wished to give everything he had to the charity foundation. He also asked for harmony among his student monks. He also wished to stop publishing his books.
