It causes deterioration of the cow’s brain, leading the animal to go ‘mad.’ Cows with this disease may have trouble walking normally. Their eyes will turn red. They may also do other peculiar things. They could seem very nervous and they may not be able to stand up sooner or later. The scientific consensus is that it happens because the disease destroys the cow’s brain. As time goes on, It leads to the microscopic appearance of holes in the brain just like sponge, degeneration of physical abilities and death in the end. It is said that mad cow disease is spread when certain parts of a sick cow are eaten. The parts of a cow which can carry mad cow disease are the brain and the backbone. Generally speaking, cattle are herbivores, which mean they only eat grass and grain in nature. However, the dangerous body parts were used in cattle commercial feed and may have caused serious damage to the brains of the animals that ate it. Feed that uses these body parts was banned in 1997. The area where the disease was the most epidemic was the United Kingdom. In the United Kingdom, roughly 180,000 cows caught mad cow disease. It simultaneously affected humans. Approximately 160 British people died in the country of the disease. People who suffer from the disease may have memory problems. Later, people with the disease will have trouble moving properly.
