    1. FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT “GOODNESS”

    2. Galatians 5:22, 23

    3. Review the “Relationship Fruit” Longsuffering – trait of restraint, not acting hastily to retaliate or punish a deed Kindness – trait of being gentle, easy, mellow so that others feel at ease before you

    4. Defining “Goodness” Greek agathosune only used four times in the N.T. 2Thess. 1:11, “Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power” (cf. Rom. 15:14; Eph. 5:9) “uprightness of heart and life, goodness, kindness” (Strong’s 19) ag-ath-o-soo’-nay Ro 15:14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness <19>, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. Eph 5:9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness <19>, righteousness, and truth), ag-ath-o-soo’-nay Ro 15:14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness <19>, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. Eph 5:9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness <19>, righteousness, and truth),

    5. Goodness & Justice justice – giving a man what is due him (i.e., what he deserves) goodness – giving a man what will help him

    6. What “Goodness” Gives shares material wealth with others Eph. 4:28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.Eph. 4:28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.

    7. What “Goodness” Gives shares material wealth with others

    8. What “Goodness” Gives shares material wealth with others shares time and talents with others “full of good works and charitable deeds” (v. 36) – NOTE “which she did” (v. 39). Tabitha was not full of “good intentions” but good works “which she did.” made tunics and garments for widows (v. 39) – some of the fruit of her work was in making tunics and garments for widows. She had a talent and used that talent in service to others. POINT: I see many talented women in the Lord’s church today. Sometimes they wonder what can they do for the Lord. I have to wonder if they are awaken to their talents? What are you good at? Why not plan to make something for someone? Why not make a card for a widow? Why not make a visit for a widow? Why not make a meal for a widow? Why not do something? Tit 2:5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. POINT 2: There is something to say about these widows too. They were grateful for Tabitha’s example, for her person (v. 39). You don’t get the impression that these widows were demanding any charity, they were not the kind of people who sit back with an open hand and had their feelings hurt if someone didn’t pay them a visit. They were a gracious group who sincerely loved Tabitha for who she was.“full of good works and charitable deeds” (v. 36) – NOTE “which she did” (v. 39). 10. What “Goodness” Gives shares material wealth with others shares time and talents with others shares strength of heart Acts 11:22-24 may require to give the sting of rebuke to those in error Isaiah 1:17, “Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow” (Is. 1:17; cf. Prov. 24:25; 28:23; 1 Tim. 5:20) Pr 24:25 But those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, And a good blessing will come upon them. Pr 28:23 ś He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward Than he who flatters with the tongue. 1 Tim. 5:20 Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear. Pr 24:25 But those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, And a good blessing will come upon them. Pr 28:23 ś He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward Than he who flatters with the tongue. 1 Tim. 5:20 Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear.

    11. It can be “GOOD” to be Afflicted! Psalm 119 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word. 68 You are good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes. 69 The proud have forged a lie against me, But I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart. 70 Their heart is as fat as grease, But I delight in Your law. 71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.

    12. Galatians 6:9, 10 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. 1 Pet. 4:19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.1 Pet. 4:19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

    13. exist together in society (Matt. 9:10-13) the good in contact with evil to save (Matt. 5:13; Jn. 17:15) exists together on the tongue (Jas. 3:9-12) exist together in the Christian’s field (Matt. 10:16) exists together in the church (Matt. 13:24-30) THERE WILL BE A DAY OF SEPARATION (v. 30) in society good in contact with evil to save Mt 5:13 ś "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. Joh 17:15 "I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. In the field - Mt 10:16 ś "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. in society good in contact with evil to save Mt 5:13 ś "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? 14. GOODNESS You are either good or not You chose whether to be good or not You choose to bear “good fruit” or not You decide whether today is good or not You decide whether today is a good day to do good or not

    15. MATTHEW 3:10

    16. We can do so much evil with our bodies – We are given a dash in history to live and with that dash we can live such an evil life, filled with hatred, wickedness, immorality and all kinds of sinfulness. THE FACT THAT WE HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF DOING SO MUCH EVIL SHOULD DRIVE US NEARER AND NEARER TO THE LORD! “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (Jas. 4:7) If the world stands another 100 years one thing is for sure. . .you will not be standing with it! None who are here today will be. Somewhere your physical remains will be housed, perhaps in a plot of ground. Perhaps they will be scattered upon the sea. . .but you will yet give an account for how you lived upon this earth. “whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away” (Jas. 4:14) Your life will vanish, but the record of it will remain. “What is your life?” Is your life good as God defines goodness? Have you obeyed the gospel? That is the beginning of reaching the goodness of God.We can do so much evil with our bodies – We are given a dash in history to live and with that dash we can live such an evil life, filled with hatred, wickedness, immorality and all kinds of sinfulness.
