  1. Email automation Saving time & increasing engagement JUNE 2019 #ENCCUK19

  2. What we'll cover • Types of automations • How automations select supporters • Examples of automations • Troubleshooting #ENCCUK19

  3. Types of automations Supporters cannot re-enter these types of automations #ENCCUK19

  4. The Objective If an automation's objective is met, the supporter will exit the automation Objective (leave condition): #ENCCUK19

  5. Who to target This automation will target... • New supporters are those new to your database after the automation launches • Use an automation profile if you don't want to target just new supporters Supporter query • Must include an opt-in (OR) • If you filter, it's an AND (must obey all criteria) • Should exclude the opt-in too (=N) #ENCCUK19

  6. And then you build your workflow... #ENCCUK19

  7. Condition hierarchy • Each condition you are capturing for trumps the ones below it • Each condition captures all conditions above it EVENT TITLE HERE IN CAPS

  8. Examples of workflows • Welcome series • New acquisitions, convert to donor • Reactivation EVENT TITLE HERE IN CAPS

  9. Various settings • Prioritise automations • Remove from standard email sends • Edit launched automations • Pause and stop automations #ENCCUK19

  10. Troubleshooting 1 Entry of supporters into your automation • Check the “Email Triggers” account settings before creating your first automation • If a supporter has been, or is currently in, an automation, they cannot re-enter if the automation is edited. The automation “remembers” who has been selected Are you targeting new supporters? • “New” means that they have to be new at the point that the automation checks. So if it is paused for a day, for example, those that became new on that day could be missed by the automation since the next day they would not be new. #ENCCUK19

  11. Troubleshooting 2 When importing: • tick the “include imported supporters” checkbox • Import users after you launch • automations are calculated around 6pm EST, so if you import supporters after that they will not be selected for that day’s automation entry. Not seeing enough supporters enter your automation? • Check the timings of the various automated procedures that are running • Could supporters be entering another automation and you have set your account so that they cannot enter this automation? #ENCCUK19

  12. Troubleshooting 3 Are you targeting automation profiles? • They are stored separately from standard profiles • Profiles do not run until the automation is launched. This means they will first show 0 supporters when you create the profile • Do not use the same profile in more than one automation • You may see a lot of supporters enter your automation initially #ENCCUK19

  13. Questions? #ENCCUK19
