  3. The Inspiration In 2013 the media was flooded with pictures of a natural catastrophe in north India. Destruction of bridges and roads left about 100,000 pilgrims and tourists trapped in the valleys leading to three of the four HinduChota Char Dham  pilgrimage sites. The Indian Airforce , the Indian Army, and paramilitary troops evacuated more than 110,000 people from the flood ravaged area. While watching the media the idea of the development of Walk-charger came to mind, as an alternate form of energy to help people in need.

  4. 1.Problem Definition • Generating Electricity and to meet its demand is a big challenge in today’s world . • Generating energy from motion called kinetic energy which can be converted into electricity can be said as green energy. • Green energy can be very useful to charge various devices like mobile, torch lamp, mini fan, navigation tools, etc • Hence the proposed work in the form of walk-charger is a sincere effort to solve the above mentioned energy issues.   5. 2.Introduction to Walk-charger • Walk-charger generates green energy by converting energy in motion to electrical energy. • Scope of walk-charger: It can be scaled from mini charging like mobile upto medium devices charging like laptops and tablet. • In walk-charger the three various concepts that can be used to produce electricity are • Gear box • Solonoid • Piezo cell WALK-CHARGER by SUBHRANSU B., SAI International School

  7. 4.COMPONENTS OF WALK-CHARGER The model of the WALK CHARGER is a shoe with: a thick heel to insert a device into it & simultaneously maintain the height of the shoe. The main circuit consists of: a miniature gearbox spring a 3000 to 4000 rolled copper wire magnets wires and mobile battery & piezocell WALK-CHARGER by SUBHRANSU B., SAI International School

PIEZO ELECTRICITY Piezoelectricity is the electric charge that accumulates in certain solid materials (such as crystals, certain ceramics, and biological matter such as bone, DNA and various proteins) in response to applied mechanical stress. OPERATIONS OF WALK-CHARGER • First the hammer will hit the ground, under it the Piezocell is present. • Due to the pressure on the cell electricity is produced & stored in the storage cell. • The cell is charged now to power different devices.   12. 8.WHY IS THE DEVICE PUT IN THE HEEL ? While walking the maximum pressure is felt at the heel of the shoe. The more the weight of the person the more pressure is felt.   16. 9.1GEAR BOX The hammer has been made in such a way that it hits the ground first as you walk or jog and levers up as the foot comes down. The arm is clutched with a gearbox so that with every step, the gears turn slightly to drive a dynamo fitted on the side of the shoe. WALK-CHARGER by SUBHRANSU B., SAI International School

  18. 9.2 SOLENOID Electromagnetic induction is the production of a potential difference (voltage) across a conductor when it is exposed to a varying magnetic field WALK-CHARGER by SUBHRANSU B., SAI International School

Faraday's law of induction is a basic law of electromagnetism predicting how a magnetic field will interact with an electric circuit to produce an electromotive force (EMF).   20. 10.USAGE OF WALK-CHARGER With bench-top experiments, we have found that the PROTOTYPE of the shoe can produce upto 3.7 volts and we can charge 5 to 6 mobile batteries in a day. WALK-CHARGER by SUBHRANSU B., SAI International School

  21. 10.USAGE OF WALK-CHARGER contd.. The other applications that we have made are: table lamp table fan. Even these charged cells can be used by defense personnel and also during natural disaster as source of electric energy. WALK-CHARGER by SUBHRANSU B., SAI International School

  23. 11.Advantages of Walk-Charger • It is compact. • Made up of light weight materials. • comfortable while walking. • safe, all the electrical devices are inserted within the sole made up of insulating material. • Affordable • Produces enough energy to charge a mobile phone in general.   24. 12.IMPROVEMENTS The main concern that has been improved is the weight of the shoe. Firstly it was very heavy but now due to the use of light materials, the weight of the shoe exactly the same as that of a normal shoe. We have made our device a bit more compact. CONCLUSION • This project was a great learning to produce electricity in non-conventional ways like from walking. • Many smaller utility devices can be used through the charged batteries of walk-charger. • The project gave a scope to improve upon areas like the weight of the shoes, compatibility of the device, & its efficiency. • Future scopes are there to improve upon to run larger devices.
