PLOTOBS is a visualization tool designed to monitor instrument health. It provides quick access to compare MOS CCDNR, IME images, and calibrated lists. The tool is user-friendly, offers postscript output, and allows batch processing for multiple observations. Developed in IDL for easy updates, it aims to make monitoring instruments easier for the team. Next steps include testing, discussing requirements, and enhancing functionality.

Jenny Carter, University of Leicester PLOTOBS: A Visualisation tool for monitoring instrument health
Aims • Provide a quick look tool for instrument health monitoring • Compare for a MOS CCDNR • IME images with calibrated lists • Comparison of flags applied to calibrated event lists • Make user friendly tool • Re-generate archive but main motivation to be easy to run individually • Postscript output as before available • Easy run through a batch file, viewing multiple observations • Based in IDL – easy for updates/whole team to understand if needed • Make available to group/wider?
Win 2 - Cal Win 1 - IME Win 4 – Cal Flag as required Win 3 – Cal XMMEA_EM
User input • Observation and exposure id • Instrument, CCDNR and energy band • Flag expression for Window 4 • Product required to display: • Spectrum, lightcurve, E4 map, image, histograms for images and E4 maps (loaded into ds9) • List of observation numbers to run in a batch
Spectra; this case XMMEA_EM = 1055898 events and flag == 0 gives 996571
Info box: mode, filter pattern fractions
Next steps ... • Further testing and functionality required • Discuss today – any requirements?
