  1. STEM Vision: Are You In? Presented by: Lake and Sumter County Schools Florida The Orlando Science Center American Paper Optics

  2. How is STEM like 3D Vision? In order to see things in 3D each eye sees a slightly different picture. The brain then integrates the two pictures to form one image. Science, technology, engineering and math are separate subjects that, when integrated, form one image- STEMVISION! Challenge: Integration of Standards from Science; Technology; CTE Engineering; Math

  3. STEM Vision: Are You In? Kathleen Keck, Lake County Schools, MSP STEM Project Manager Heather Norton, the Orlando Science Center, VP of Education Colleen Strickland, Sumter County Schools, Curriculum Supervisor Jason Lewin/Vicki Waldo, American Paper Optics Michelle Alberto, Laura Hilding, Michele Mann, Deanna Squire, Kevin Strickland, Lori Vroman, Lake and Sumter County Teaching Teams

  4. What We Did • Trained Over 120 Teachers at 11 Schools in Two Districts • Deconstructed STEM Challenges: Orlando Science Center • Integrated Technology in the classroom: TechKNOW Associates • Created Lessons: FSU Learning Systems Institute- CPALMS • Collaborated with Higher Ed Faculty: Florida Polytechnic • Published 74 Vetted STEM Challenge Lesson Plans on CPALMS

  5. Engineering Design Process

  6. Technology Integration Highlights • Sumter County Teaching Team: Michelle Alberto; Deanna Squire; Kevin Strickland • Technology Integration in Sumter County • THE 15 MINUTE DESIGN CHALLENGE!

  7. Goal: To create the tallest freestanding structure through alternative means of communication and complete team cooperation. • Ask- What do you need to know in order to reach the goal? • Imagine: What are some possible solutions to the problem? • Plan: Combine all your ideas into one design • Create: Follow your plan to create your design • Improve: How can you improve the design? • Communicate: Did your team accomplish the goal?

  8. STEM Project-Based Lesson Highlights and Results: Lake County • Lake County Teaching Team: Treadway Elementary Laura Hilding; Michele Mann; Lori Vroman • Science; Math Standards Integration • Results and Scale Up • Highlight Reel
