4. Kazakhstan’s population is 15.3 million And a little less than half of its population is drinking dirty water from rivers and wells. This needs to change and we need to help it happen. If no one helps the country an epidemic may break out and thousand’s could die. This is a problem that needs to be fixed.

5. The water is to dirty to even use for irrigation. It can carry carcinogens into rice fields, pass toxins from nursing mothers to newborns, and is seen as a threat to the health and livelihood of the millions of people who live nearby. And as bad as that sounds, it may be even worse. The dire assessment of the state of Syr Darya's water was made on March 26 at a meeting in Almaty of state-sponsored environmentalists and ecologists, the sort of group one would expect might "sugarcoat" the true extent of the problem.

As the site of the former Soviet Union's nuclear testing programs, areas of the nation have been exposed to high levels of nuclear radiation, and there is significant radioactive pollution. The nation also has 30 uranium mines, which add to the problem of uncontrolled release of radioactivity. Kazakhstan has sought international support to convince China to stop testing atomic bombs near its territory, because of the dangerous fallout. Which adds on to the pollution to their water problems

The quality of the water that people have access to is clearly of paramount importance, not only in terms of the actual quality as measured by its chemical, biological, nutrient, and aesthetic qualities, but also in terms of people’s perception of this water’s quality. Over 40% of respondents asserted that there is a problem with the quality of drinking water. This figure increases for people connected to a CWSS (44%).

10. If our government would just donate a few thousand dollars or so we could help the people of Kazakhstan but not many people know about what is happening and take their lives for granted every day. Our schools should try and make fund raisers and donations to help Kazakhstan's fight for water. Please help the country of Kazakhstan
