Hebrews: Quick Facts • Author: (uncertain) Paul, Barnabas, Apollos, Priscilla, Silas and Epaphras have all been proposed. • It might have been a sermon (no intro, lots of scripture references) • Audience: Jewish believers • Date: Between 60-70 AD (mention of temple, w/o mentioning it’s destruction) • Themes: Supremacy of Christ, Perseverance, Faith, Discipline and Christian Living.

  3. I. The Son Superior to angels Isaiah 37:36 Revelation 5:11 Angels are powerful—Jesus is better!

  4. Hebrews 1 and 2 • 1:3…Jesus is an exact representation of God! • 1:6…Angels worship HIM. • 1:7…He makes the Angels. • 1:14…Angels are “sent to serve” those who will inherit salvation. • 2:1-18…Jesus in bodily form like us “in every way” • What amazing things to consider! • Matthew 4:11

  5. II. Jesus Superior to Moses Moses spoke w/ God…Ex 33 -Intercessor…DT 5:25-27 -Mediator…Num 14:22-23 -Judge…Ex 18:13-16 Moses was great—Jesus is greater!

Hebrews 3 • The figure of Moses is a foreshadowing of one who is greater—Jesus Christ! • vs. 3… imagine telling an Israelite these words: “Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses…” • vs. 5-6… Moses = a servant Jesus = a son • Just as Moses was ignored, we too can harden our hearts and ignore Christ. • vs. 12-18…the vital nature of our relationships with one another.
