  4. Background • Development from the NW CL Project • Main outcomes: • Mediated searching and own searching • Structured skills support in journal clubs • Need for services to be targeted

  5. Main Remit • To develop and implement information skills training programme • To develop and implement critical appraisal skills courses • To facilitate journal clubs • To develop Outreach training

  6. First Steps • Promoting/Marketing the service • Team Brief • Trust Server / JSL web pages • Quick Guides series • Hi-Profile • Athens registrations • Training Notice board

  7. Training • Rolling monthly programme database searching, e-library • Tutorials • GPST Finding the Evidence ½ day workshop • Research Seminar Programme

  8. Outreach Training • Departmental educational sessions e-library presentations • Community hospitals Audit/library presentations

  9. Critical Appraisal • Bi-monthly programme • Mixture of professional groups • Pharmacy sessions • Tutorials for doctors presenting papers • Journal clubs • Child Protection, Hospice, Community Psychiatric Team

  10. Evaluation & Progress • Record of attendance • Feedback forms – Training programme • Statistics - Literature searches • Low attendance • Lack of time, staff shortage

  11. Future Plans • E-learning JSL web pages/ Trustwide • Outreach training – roadshows, target specific groups in community • Journal clubs • Medical Students – educational sessions

  12. CL Role at Glan Clwyd Hospital • Literature Searching – remains most used service • Critical Appraisal Training • Journal Clubs • Writing Club

  13. Writing Club • Set up in partnership with Leadership Development Coordinator • Very positive responses but attendance can be problematic! • Two articles in press • Working closely with R&D committee and Nursing Research Strategy Group
