  1. E D I S O N ELECTRONIC DISCHARGE INFORMATION SYSTEM ONLINE (In Scotland) NHS SCOTLAND & COUNCILS IN PARTNERSHIP

  2. OVERVIEW The Universe/software will be hosted with ATOS Origin as per EDISON System arrangements, circa 300 user accounts There are no license costs to EDISON users, Health or Social Work for implementing Business Objects (BO) The EDISON Administrator in each area would be responsible for completing an application for the BO license on behalf of any EDISON user Health or Social who is to be given access to EDISON BO - there is no cost for this process or for the license Data will be extracted from EDISON to BO routinely and regularly to ensure information reported is no more than 24 hours old EDISON has been implemented at no purchase cost to Partners, with system development, enhancements, annual maintenance or training to date being fully funded by SG

  3. FEATURES OF EDISON BUSINESS OBJECTS Business Objects is an integrated query, reporting and data analysis tool, which makes it easy for the user to access and report information contained within the EDISON system It allows the creation, execution and management of standard and user-defined reports Data items can be added or removed from reports through a simple drag and drop function. Conditions and filters can also be added or removed in a similar way. Reports can be created once, saved and refreshed whenever required Created reports can be shared with all EDISON BO users in Scotland Reports are fully editable allowing re-run with amended criteria or saved as new query or report BO support exports into MS Excel and PDF formats EDISON BO is web based allowing access to the system from any Internet enabled computer with access to N3 or GSI network (may require firewalls to be opened by IT technical support in Health or Social Work areas as identified)

  4. MANAGERIAL BENEFITS OF IMPLEMENTING BO Instant access to best available data / information in reports tailored to individual user requirements Improved access to information promotes improvements to accuracy, efficiency and productivity Standard reports can be refreshed or amended (dependant on the complexity of the query) by BO users irrespective of their skill level Simple, but professional ad hoc reports can be created by non-expert users Complex reports can be written by skilled users and then refreshed or amended (dependant on the complexity of the query) by BO users irrespective of their skill level. These can also be shared with other users Development of a consistent approach and ability of users network to support each other on an ongoing basis thorough the sharing of report templates and the joint development of ad-hoc reports

  5. MANAGERIAL BENEFITS OF IMPLEMENTING BO Improvements to data quality by promoting greater accessibility to the information Enhancement of (almost) real time and accurate reporting Flexibility to create and amend report criteria using drag and drop across all of the data items within the system Ease of development of professional looking front end reports EDISON BO is web based so does not require any maintenance or processing capacity of the user’s computer All maintenance is carried out on behalf of all users centrally by ATOS Origin There is no support input required by local IT staff, although there may be some initial input to allow firewall protection to be adjusted.

  6. SUMMARY The EDISON National User Forum (ENUF) fully endorses the implementation of BO for the EDISON system as this will strongly encourage and support: The provision of automatic, consistent accurate data for analysis and information for reporting Significantly increase the ability to adapt to reporting requests Provide best available access to data and information Support and enhance the provision to national data sets of consistent and timely information Superior and efficient in comparison to other data interrogation tools most commonly used i.e. Microsoft Excel
