  3. Our background • We are the only national centre for volunteering and receive support from the Scottish Government and others to: • demonstrate and measure the impact made by volunteers; • support paid staff and volunteers to develop skills through accessing training and easy to use volunteer development tools, policies and good practice; • offer a one stop digital gateway to everyone in Scotland who might want to find volunteer opportunities; • support organisations to post and advertise new volunteer opportunities and events; • provide an expert disclosure service for voluntary organisations; • help organisations and people who can influence volunteering; • work with partners to support projects, innovation and creativity in volunteering.

  4. Aim and Objectives • Scotland’s Best is part of a national programme whose aims are to: • Develop the employability skills and work readiness of individuals linked to local, regional or national labour market opportunities using volunteering opportunities across Scotland. • Provide vocational learning, which meets the needs of employers and which leads to employment or other forms of progression for the individual. • Maximise the opportunity for individuals to have valuable work experience, through volunteering, which will enhance their learning and understanding of the workplace.

  5. Delivery

  6. Detailed delivery • Volunteering: • 20 hours minimum volunteering time. • Induction counts towards your volunteering time. • Volunteering opportunities at a range of locations and times. • Individual and group based volunteering opportunities. • Volunteering opportunities at events throughout Scotland, including the Ryder Cup. • The volunteering completed through Scotland’s Best can count toward Scotland’s Best incentive scheme and other volunteering awards. 7. Detailed delivery • 4 and 26 Week employment/training placement: • These placement can support the change for young people into entry- level employment or appropriate training, education and learning. • Remember it’s not all about how many qualifications you have, it’s about real work experience. This placement will give them that. • In a tight jobs market it’s important to make the use of your work experience. • They will gain an insight into the world of work. • Develop skills required in the work place such as team working and good timekeeping. • Develop self-awareness and confidence. • Begin to understand the links between school subjects and the world of work.
