  2. Grade 9Compulsory Program • Must pass English & Math (min. 60%) • Must have overall average of 60% (min.)

  3. Grade 10 Compulsory Program • Must pass all subjects (min. 60%) • English (full year) • Mathematics (full year) • French or Maliseet • Science • Social Studies • Personal Development & Career Planning AND

  4. And You Must Pass • Any Two of Four Electives (you choose) • Broad Based Technology (BBT) • Music (Choral, Instrumental, Keyboard) • Visual Arts • Health & Physical Education

  5. Any subject not passed must be re-taken in Summer School or in Grade 11!

  6. If Not Taken in Summer School • Every Grade 10 subject taken in Grade 11 results in 1 less credit that can be earned for graduation (17/20). • This could result in not being able to take the courses you wish to take. • This could result in not graduating on time.

  7. Therefore- Do your very best in Grade 10!

  8. Elective Choices • Choose any 2 of 4 electives. • Note that some are prerequisites for Grade 11 and 12 courses.

  9. Broad Based Technology (BBT) • Designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore technology in a multi-activity learning environment while working cooperatively in pairs. • Students will complete 7-8 units of study (9-10 hrs. each) in a technology-related area, using various software: • i-Movie, Photoshop Elements, Illustrator, Tabletop, AutoCAD LT, Authorware, Even More Contraptions, Dreamweaver, Flash and Excel. • Other technology-related areas include Engineering, Electrical, and Digital Graphics.

  10. Music 10Choral, Instrumental, Keyboard • Prerequisite for Music 112 (Choral; Guitar; Instrumental; Keyboarding) • Offers students an opportunity to develop technical and performance skills in voice, instrument (wind) or keyboard. • Students will also develop theory and aural skills, music literacy, and discrimination skills. • The course is fun and challenging for those who are interested in music. • Each student can choose one of the three options offered.

Visual Arts 10 • Prerequisite for Graphic Arts 110 and Visual Arts 110. • For students who have an interest in art. • Designed to cover a variety of media, both 3-D and 2-D as well as art history and theory experienced through art projects. • Students will have an opportunity to experience and explore each of the following types of media: • Sculpture 3-D (clay, papier mache) • Drawing 2-D design (perspective, tone/shading, drawing from observation) • Painting 2-D design (water colour, colour theory, landscapes, ½ portraits, still life)

  12. Health & Physical Education 10 • Prerequisite for Outdoor Pursuits 110 and Health & Physical Education 120 • Designed to introduce teenagers to lifetime fitness activities. • Activities are divided into 3-week units, with an emphasis being placed on effort and interest, rather than athletic ability. • Depending on the semester, activities may differ. • Activities offered include: • Weight training, anaerobic/aerobic exercise • Badminton -Basketball -Volleyball • Soccer -Softball -Orienteering

  13. Choosing Electives • Choose your two electives carefully. • Consider your interests and the courses you may wish to take in Grades 11 & 12. • March 22: Complete Scantron in Homeroom
