  2. Origins • Nepal and India • ‘A Family of Religions’ • One of the oldest world religions • Sanatanadharma (which means eternal teaching)

Concepts and beliefs • Most believe in a supreme God which takes form in many deities (Krishna, Garnesh, Lakshmi) • Karma • Atman • Varna- the class system • Dharama- the power that governs society and is each individuals religious duties • The sacred cow- a symbol of peace and strength in the religion

  4. Foods • Because of the concept of reincarnation many Hindus are vegetarian • Not allowed meat, fish, poultry and eggs • Some don’t eat onions, alcohol, mushrooms garlic and caffeine • They may fast on festival/religious days. Some may obstain completely from food or water yet some are more relaxed and only abstain from milk, flour, etc.
