  2. Objectives • To analyze population distribution and density characteristics in Calgary and specifically South and Southeast Calgary • Purpose is to exhibit population trends to aid in development of a new community in South Calgary

  3. Variables Chosen • The variables under analysis include: • Male Population • Female Population • Population Age 0 to 4 • Population Age 20 to 24 • Population Age 45 to 54

  4. Male versus Female Populations • In order to determine any gender bias in choosing a place to live • Gender distribution is indicator of proportion of married/common-law residents • Total of male and female population indicates population density of specific areas

  5. Explanation of Selected Age Cohorts • Population aged 0 to 4 indicates the number of new families or growing families in an area. This group is fairly likely to relocate in the near future. • Population aged 20 to 24 indicates the number of potential first home buyers in the area. • Population aged 45 to 54 indicates families with children leaving home. This often leads to relocation. These cohorts were chosen to represent the subsets of the population that are most likely to move, and thus should be considered in developing a new community.
