  3. Semaphore • Semaphore Flags is the system for conveying information at a distance by means of visual signals with hand-held flags, rods, disks, paddles, or occasionally bare or gloved hands. Information is encoded by the position of the flags; it is read when the flag is in a fixed position.

  4. Racing flags • Racing flags are traditionally used in auto racing and similar motorsports to indicate track condition and to communicate important messages to drivers.

  5. Flags as a warning • Flags were used as warnings for people to show that a car was coming.
