  17. WHO MUST TAKE • THE OCTOBER HSPA • R11, 12, R12, RS & AH school students • who have not passed HSPA Math or LAL • General Education • Limited English Proficient [NO LAL Exemption] • Special Education without a valid score • [except APA]

  18. APA STUDENTS: EXEMPT FROM TAKING HSPA • All students who are EXEMPT from taking the HSPA MUST take the Alternate Proficiency Assessment [ APA ] in Mathematics and Language Arts Literacy as designated in each student’s IEP.

Testing “Special” Students TEMPORARY / EMERGENCY SECTION 504 PLAN • Sprained or broken arm (etc.) prior to test: • prepare a temporary/emergency Section 504 • Plan. • Student allowed to receive test modifications & • accommodations described in Appendix A • (p. 46) of the School Test Coordinator Manuals. • Modifications & accommodations (extra time, scribe, computer, etc.) must be included in • Section 504 Plan. • 504 and SE/504 ACCOMM bubbles must be • gridded on HSPA

  20. APPENDIX AAcceptable Accommodations of Modifications A. Setting Accommodations - Administering the test individually in a separate room. - Seating the student near the proctor examiner or proctor - Providing special lighting B. Scheduling Accommodations - Adding time as needed - Providing frequent breaks C. Test Material Modifications - Administering the large-print version of the test - Administering the Braille version of the test D. Test Procedure Modifications - Reading test questions or items aloud. (Never read aloud of sign passages) - Dictate oral responses to a scribe - recording responses on a word processor

Large Print / Braille • Contact OPPRA immediately if you need LP or Braille materials. • LP & Braille materials are shipped with regular materials but in SHRINK • WRAPPED KIT. • Kit includes SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTIONS & OMITTED ITEMS LIST that MUST be used. • SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTIONS MUST be reviewed PRIOR to testing. • LP & Braille test MAY NOT be the same as rest of school. THEREFORE ONLY use LP & Braille kit materials provided

Out-of-District • Placements (ODP) • Responsibilities of Sending / Home Districts • ALL students MUST be tested regardless of student location. • Sending / Home district MUST provide the receiving district with sending district’s county-district-school codes AND all applicable “School Use Only” info for each ODP student.

Out-of-District Placements (continued) • Responsibilities of Receiving Districts / • Approved Private Schools • Receiving Districts(public & approved private schools for the handicapped) may test ODP students. • ODP answer folders MUST have the following: 1. Testing SiteCounty-District-School codes. 2. SendingCounty-District-Schoolcodes. • Students AttendingOut-of–District Placements roster MUST be completed.

HOMEBOUND, BEDSIDE & • Non-Testing ODP Placements • Students receiving homebound or bedside instruction MUST be tested unless they are too ill to participate. • Testing may occur ANYTIME during the 2 week testing period EXCEPT persuasive prompt which MUST be on a Thursday. • Examiner MUST be: • Licensed professional employed by the district. • Trained by school or district test coordinator. • Sign appropriate School Security Checklists. • Maintain test security at ALL times. • Return secure test materials to school coordinator ASAP after testing is completed.

  26. Limited English Proficient Students (ELL) • ALL LEP students MUST be tested. There are NO exemptions. • FORMER LEP students are NOT permitted LEP accommodations. • You MUST provide #1 and #2 of the following accommodations: • Additional time - 150%of the regular administration time: add extra time to EACH individually timed part. • Use of BILINGUAL TRANSLATION dictionary, preferably one normally used by the student as part of the instructional program. • Translate directions ONLYinto the student’s native language. Translation of passages, items, prompts, and tasks is NOT permitted. • You MUST test LEP students in rooms SEPARATE from • general education students.

RETURNING STUDENTS • Completed ALL graduation requirements • EXCEPT passing HSPA & are NO longer enrolled. • GradeMUSTbe gridded RS. • Ideally should test at diploma grantinghigh school BUT may test at any high school. • CDS code MUSTbe gridded using the diploma grantinghigh school CDS codes. • HSPA Bar-Code Labels MUSTbeusedif available AND have correct CDS code. • Returning Student Header Sheets MUSTbe used.

Student Roster • A student roster should be prepared for every testing room. • Information for completing roster can be obtained using Quick Export in Power School • Student rosters are used to: • Ensure students are testing in the correct room • Verify which section of test each student should take (HSPA roster) • Verify correct gridding by students • Keep attendance records • There are 2 Student Roster templates: • Student Attendance Roster (Used by STC & Examiner) • Class Door Roster (Sign for Testing Room Door)

  41. HSPA Persuasive Writing Task Folders • There are 2 versions of the Persuasive Writing Task Folders. One for Oct 3rd and one for Oct. 10th (make up day). • Shrink-wrapping may NOT be opened until the morning of testing.

  47. PACKING LISTS: • Packing Lists will identify all materials received by a school. • Review and confirm that you have received all the materials listed. Do notopen any of the shrink wrap at this point. Count materials while leaving the shrink wrap sealed. • Answer folders are not “secure” and the shrink wrap can be removed at any time after your initial count. • The shrink wrap may be removed from the test booklets 24 hours prior to testing. The individual books themselves must remain sealed. • The Persuasive Writing Prompts for Oct. 3rd (Purple) must remain in their shrink wrap and in a secure location until the morning of Oct. 3rd. • The make-up Persuasive Writing Prompts for Oct. 10th (Blue) must remain in their shrink wrap and in a secure location until the morning of Oct. 10th . • Note: you will not receive the make-up Persuasive Writing Prompts until Oct. 4th .
