Three Approaches to Implementing Collaborative Teaching • Team teaching • educators jointly planning and presenting subject content to all students. • Supportive learning activities • those that reinforce, enrich, or enhance learning for all students. • Complementary instruction • one educator takes primary responsibility for teaching content material and the other for teaching functional how-to skills so students can successfully understand and acquire the content material. • Bauwens, Jeanne and Hourcade, Jack J.   5. How can a partnership help teachers integrate technology to enhance teaching and learning?

  6. Master Technology Teacher Program (MTT) • enhance technology integration at clinical placement sites • build student and teacher knowledge for integrating technology • bridge gap between inservice, preservice, and teacher education program faculty for technology use • provide long-term, sustained professional development A TRUE PARTNERSHIP

History of MTT • Developed and began program at The University of Alabama in 2000 (summer/4ws) • 1st year: Invited two area high school teachers for each of the five content areas in secondary program:Foreign Language, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Sciences • 2nd and 3rd year: Invited one additional inservice teacher each year in each content area (as needed in 3rd year) • 4th and 5th year: those who chose to participate • 6th year: Invited additional (PDS specific) teachers

Program includes • Access to technology (Technology on Wheels, digital cameras, and online tutorials) • Strong preservice teacher involvement—work with clinical experience director • Faculty involvement—must be maintained • Partnership with UA’s Inservice Center -- Technology in Motion for technology training (began in Year 3) • Include on-site follow-up visits • Introduction of emerging and innovative technologies

  9. Current Model • Meet at a participating MTT’s school • Pre-observation meeting • Observe technology being used in the classroom • Post-observation meeting • Introduction of “new” tool/technology

  10. Year 8 in ’07-’08 • Domino effect in participating schools • Schools have purchased hardware/software used by MTTs • MTTs have become “go to” person • Provided additional partnerships • Improved communication efforts • Provided positive classroom experiences • True technology integration experiences
