  2. The Kyoto Protocol is an international treaty. • The Protocol was introduced to parties in 1997 and was entered into force in 2005. • It was amended in the year 2012 to accommodate for the second commitment period which is between the years 2013-2020.

  3. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is the party responsible for the Kyoto Protocol. • This treaty puts binding obligations on industrialized countries to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gasses. • The overarching goal of the Kyoto Protocol is to prevent dangerous human-induced interference with the worlds climate system
