  9. Problem: plagiarism Can we solve it by setting up our classes differently?

  10. Possibilities or a curse? • Spice it up (infusing websites into existing courses using LMS like Moodle, Bb, etc) • “Old” fashion in new ways (use of film, group projects, and presentations)

  11. Why? • Opportunityfor critical thinking (new media literacies) • Higher on Bloom’s taxonomy (apply, create, collaborate) • Global possibilities • It’s fun to add fresh content, stay relevant • Not just a FAD

Creating connections • By directing students to particular websites, and exposing them to discipline specific information from sources that may be new to them, we can model good online research practices and media literacy • It can also prevent plagiarism if we keep changing the assignments and ask specific questions related to our chapters

New possibilities for instruction and assessment • Learning THROUGH technology, not just FROM technology • Direct students to specific websites, helping them make connections between our courses and contemporary debates or issues • Use technology to create and collaborate (students) and spice up online and F2F classes (instructors) • Share with colleagues- campus/department sessions • Library! What do you have? Use it!
