There were 4 treatments that combined 2 P levels (0 or 320 M P as KH2PO4; LP and HP) in the upper compartment, and 2 Al activities (0 or 38 M Al3+ as AlCl3; +/-Al) in the lower compartment. Malate exudation was collected from the 3 compartments and measured by capillary electrophoresis (see Materials and Methods for details).
