Common Activities • Publications (Peer Reviewed Journal Articles, Etc…) • Presentations (Think about what is ‘most prestigious’) • Grants (Approved or not, clinical trials, etc.) • Program Teaching (Is it in the Schulich Medical Program?) • Clinical Teaching (A patient and a learner in the same room) • Supervision Vs. Mentoring (Mentor is Faculty to Faculty) • Administrative Committees (task force, working group etc) • Maintenance of Certification (Roles in conferences)

  14. Common Activities Publications • Role – author, co-author, etc • Status: In-Press and Published will be printed • Abstracts can be both published and presented • Use PubMed ID to retrieve information • Key to accurate Citation information

Common Activities Presentations • Presentation Type, Activity Type and Role are key • Visiting Professorship and Invited Lecturer Role both appear on the Teaching Dossier (APTD) • Plenary, Keynote, and Podium are all the same • Geographic Scope is the sponsoring organization and not your physical location • Think of what is ‘most prestigious’ • Conference presentation Vs. Poster presentation

Common Activities Grants and Trials • Date, Status, PI, Co-PI, Short Title, Amount and Application Summary are all key • You can prorate $ across multiple years • Complete as much information as possible to facilitate Common CV data transfer • Schulich would like to see Grant Status: • Applied (The grant application has been submitted for review) • Declined (This grant was approved / awarded but it was declined by the applicant) • Funded (This grant was approved / awarded) • Not-Funded (The grant was approved but funding was not available) • Rejected (The grant application was rejected)

Common Activities Program Teaching • Continuing, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate • Course activities are defined by Department • Total hours are calculated • Use Academic Year for dates whenever possible • Admin means course or curriculum development Clinical Teaching • Appears on Teaching Dossier only

  18. Common Activities Supervision Vs. Mentoring • Supervision is when you have an active role in reviewing performance • Mentoring is a faculty to faculty process where you help and support the professional goals of the faculty member • Tips: if you supervise Residents, Fellowships or Observershipsthey should go under Program Teaching

  19. Common Activities Administrative Committees • Tracks the working groups or committees you are part of • Allocate hours per year

Common Activities Maintenance of Certification • Captures all activities that can be claimed by either the Royal College or CFPC • Designed to help summarize information so you can organize and claim your credits (external) Roles in Conferences • Chair, Panel Member and Facilitator activities go here and not in Presentations

Tips for Complete Data Across all of STAR • Use ‘Copy from Start Date’ for End Date • Template ‘good records’ in each section • Use Save/Clone to enter another similar record • Geographic Scope • Sponsoring organization, not the physical location • Use STAR monthly update form • Context is everything: Who, What, Where, When https://www.schulich.uwo.ca/star/resources

Tips for Complete Data • If an activity was repeated or happened more than once, use the Academic Year (Jul 1 – Jun 30). • Use ‘authoritative’ sources for information • Grants DB, PubMed, Scopus • Avoid using the ‘* Other – please specify’ values (Wherever Possible) • Avoid acronyms • Validate your data to know for future updates
