  1. 1CAMP AT THESE THEME PARKS FOR THRILLING VACATION Before you go on the road, it’s a good idea to have a route planned, for several reasons. You get the most out of your sight-seeing adventure, you’ll spend less time cooped up together, and you can see more sights and try more things. And these aren’t any ordinary theme parks, we’ve picked out amusement parks across the country, including the “Waterpark Capital of the World,” TripAdvisors top parks, plus the fastest and tallest roller coaster in the U.S. Are you ready for some fun? 1.1FLORIDA THEME PARKS GALORE 1.1.1Arrowhead Campsites Arrowhead Campsites in Ocala, located in central Florida, is just six miles from Silver Springs State Park. The park is home to one of the largest artisanal springs and was declared a National Natural Landmark in 1971. Families can tour the spring in a glass bottom boat, kayak, or canoe. An artesian spring may not wow the kids, but the on-site water park will do the trick. Wild Waters runs special events all summer and you may want to arrange for a babysitter for 7pm to 11pm on Friday nights when it’s adults only.

  2. Of course, you’ll be spending most of your time at Arrowhead Campsites, where you can place a reservation in advance. Your options are unlimited, from a day to five months, 12 months, and longer. There’s a discount for making a reservation seven days in advance and a steeper discount at 30 days. Arrowhead Campsites always has a promotion. Most recently, we saw 20 amp and 50 amp sites going for $19.99 per night. There’s an onsite swimming pool, and a multi-purpose community building for potluck dinners, bingo, crafting, and card games. When you’re set to check out your next location, just travel south for less than 80 miles and you’ll hit a flurry of amusement parks, including Disney World, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Discovery Cove, and more. 1.1.2WaterPark Capital of the World Kids love waterparks, grownups love waterparks, and when you’re in Wisconsin Dells, you’re surrounded by so many waterparks, the state branded itself “Waterpark Capital of the World.” 1.1.3Chapparel Campground & Resort For access to the best waterparks in the U.S., Wisconsin Dells is where you want to be, which means you need to make your reservation at Chapparal

The number of area attractions here is staggering: Circus World Museum, two state parks, the Mid-Continent Railway Museum, and for grownups-only, Ho Chunk Casino, plus lots more. Chapparal’s on-site activities include a swimming pond, sandy beach, volleyball court, game room and lounge. There’s a prairie for bird-watching aficionados and four major bike trails close by. 1.1.4Roller Coaster Club Did you know there’s a fan club for people who travel the U.S. for the sole purpose of riding the tallest and/or fastest roller coasters in the country? We’re not exactly sure if you get a membership card and a soda fountain discount, but it’s definitely something you can check off your bucket list. If you’re just getting started on your quest to ride the tallest and fastest coaster, your first stop, obviously, is Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. 1.1.5Indian Rock RV Park If you want to be first in line to ride Kingda Ka, the best place to hook up your RV is just eight miles away at Indian Rock RV Park, also in Jackson. You’d be even closer but the more than 12,000-acre Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area sits between the campground and the amusement park. Indian Rock RV Park is one of the most dog-friendly campgrounds around. So pooch friendly, in fact, they have an on-site Bark Park playground. Daily, monthly, vacation, or seasonal reservations are available at the family-run and owned business, which has been in operation for 25 years. They’re located on 30 acres and camp sites are described as spacious, running about 35 to 50-feet. On-site activities include mini golf, volleyball, horseshoes, basketball, a playground for the kids, and a seasonally operational swimming pool. 1.2BEST AMUSEMENT PARKS IN THE US According to TripAdvisor, the top 12 amusement parks in the United States are either in Central Florida or Southern California. Since we already have Florida parks in the number-one position on our list, we obviously can’t leave out southern California’s Disney parks, Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld San Diego, and Six Flags Magic Mountain. These top parks are in less than a 155-mile radius — not counting traffic, of course. In just a few days, your family can meet Mickey Mouse, Minions, and Shamu.

  4. 1.2.1Canyon RV Park Making a reservation at Canyon RV Park in Anaheim will practically put you right on Disneyland’sdoorstep. And it’s about the halfway point between Santa Clarita and San Diego amusement parks. This campground has 140 spots just for RVers, plus full hook-ups, and can accommodate rigs and trailers up to 45-feet. Once all the nearby amusement parks sap up your energy, take some time to enjoy the amenities Canyon RV Park has to offer, including a bike trail, swimming pool, and amphitheatre for concerts and movie nights. 1.2.2Chocolate Heaven Can you think of a better combination than chocolate and thrill rides? In the early 1900s, Milton Hershey developed Hershey Park as a place his employees could take a break from work. It wasn’t an amusement park like we know it today. In fact, the first ride — a merry-go-round —wasn’t even installed for another year. But today, Hershey Park has state-of-the-art rides, plus a free chocolate-making tour that includes samples. 1.2.3Hershey Campground At Campground in Maine, just about 10 miles from Hershey Park, you can still smell the chocolate. That’s not a bad aroma to wake up to. After you’ve gorged on all the milk chocolate and Special Dark that you can take, burn off some of that sugar while playing 18-hole mini-golf, volleyball, basketball, and tennis. The campsite offers movie night and has a tranquil koi pond. When the traveling bug bites again, just 20 miles to the southeast is Pennsylvania’s famed Lancaster County, where the Amish are still living like it’s 1889. But the best part of Lancaster County? You can stop at Dutch Wonderland, “A Kingdom for Kids.” There are 30 rides and then this little known deal: Show up just three hours before closing and you qualify for the twilight rate.
