  4. Title Table of ContentsInvestigationCreditsStandards What is an Ecosystem? • The plants and animals that are found in a particular location are • referred to as an ecosystem. • In a delicate balance, these life forms help to sustain one another • in regular patterns. • Disruptions to an ecosystem can be disastrous to all organisms • within the ecosystem. Click on the picture of this ecosystem to learn more! After reading about different ecosystems take the quiz. Take the Quiz

  5. Title Table of ContentsInvestigationCreditsStandards How Do We Impact Our Earth? • Human well-being is highly dependent on ecosystems and the benefits they • provide such as food and drinkable water. Over the past 50 years, however, • humans have had a tremendous impact on their environment. • Virtually all of Earth’s ecosystems have been significantly transformed • through human actions. Changes have been especially rapid in the last • 50 years and today the fastest changes are taking place in developing • countries. Ecosystems are particularly affected by large-scale fishing, • freshwater use, and agriculture. Click on the picture to view a video describing the impact we have on our environment. Minimize Power Point to view the video in a separate window. Take the Quiz

  6. Title Table of ContentsInvestigationCreditsStandards What is Sustainability? First, click on the picture to the left and learn about sustainability and how we can help the ecosystem we live in. Take the Quiz Next, click on the picture to the right and complete the journal activity described.

  7. Title Table of ContentsInvestigationCreditsStandards Journal Activity In your Science Journal, describe this picture in your own words. Be sure to include how you think this ecosystem would be impacted by what you see? How do you think this happened? Is there a way to fix what you see?

  8. Title Table of ContentsInvestigationCreditsStandards Final Assessment Directions: In your science journal answer the following questions: 1. What is an ecosystem? How do we impact our environment and the living organisms within it? What is sustainability and how can we help improve the impact we have on future generations?
