TraceRace Pitch By Mike Antonakes & Ryan Abbott
How to play • Outline a series of drawings as accurately as possible using the mouse • Speed and accuracy are important • You only get one stroke to pull off this feat – no erase ability, no second tries, nothing. • If you get an accuracy less than 50%, then you fail the drawing, earning yourself a strike. • Three strikes, and it’s game over! • The greater your accuracy is, the more points you’ll earn.
Why is it enjoyable? • Simple concept – everyone knows how to draw! • Very accessible game • Gameplay is simple to learn, hard to master • High variety in drawings = high replay value • Gameloop is very rewarding • Lots of polish – very visually appealing
User Interface • Designed to be visually appealing, clean, and easily readable • Hence why we chose Helvetica as a base font • Minimalism-inspired visuals, with emphasis on typography, iconography, and 2D graphics. • This all benefits the player by removing as many unnecessary layers between the game and themselves – a common problem found in most HUD designs • This cleanliness stands out from the likes ofCityVille, giving the game a unique selling point.
Networking/Database Usage • TraceRace connects to Apple’s IAP/Game Center servers for the following actions: • User information query/transmit • Achievement progress updating • Leaderboard progress updating • Handling in-app purchases/returns • This is all a proprietary system not unlike MySQL, but MySQL itself is not present. Inter-server communication still exists. • All users are prompted to log in on app launch, doing so will transmit any localplayer statistics to the account which is logged in.
